After Dinner
Cesar Ritz and Marc Alan Innes, Pioneers
Cesar Ritz established the benchmark for luxury hotels in Europe. He formed the framework for the Ritz-Carlton service philosophy, with comments like this: “Never say no when a client asks for something, even if it is for the moon. You can always try.”
The Ritz-Carlton’s dining legacy began when Cesar Ritz teamed up with culinary genius Auguste Escoffier. Learning the hotel trade together at the Grand Hotel in Monte Carlo, they later assumed leadership roles at the Savoy in London, with Cesar Ritz serving as General Manager and Escoffier as Head of Restaurant Services. Ambitious though they were, they could not have envisioned their impact on luxury hotels around the world, long beyond their lifetimes.
Insisting on the highest standard of hygiene, Cesar Ritz preferred white walls in guest rooms, so that even a cursory inspection would detect unwanted marks. Not surprisingly, his reputation for excellence and elegance coined new sayings: “ritzy” and “Puttin’ on the Ritz.”

Consider these familiar names:
· The Matterhorn
· The Masters
· The Hope Diamond
· The Grand Canyon
· The Parthenon
An unlikely combination? Not at all, because they share a common factor. They garner unmatched respect, worldwide. Mention any of them, and words like these come to mind: “tops in their field,” “awe inspiring,” “prestigious,” “highest quality,” “the finest,” “in a class of their own,” and “breathtaking.”
Here’s a name we can add to the list, quite justifiably: The Ritz-Carlton. The Ritz-Carlton Hotel’s magnificent customer service—combining resplendent facilities with the ultimate in personal attention—prompts every guest to exhaust his or her dictionary of superlatives. Guests remark that they are “pampered,” “respected,” “treated like royalty,” and “incurably spoiled.”

The Night Cap
A nightcap is an alcoholic beverage consumed right before going to bed. The alcohol content is higher than a wine or beer drink, usually a liqueur or spirit. Traditional nightcaps are brandy or bourbon or a cream-based liqueur such as Irish cream. However wine or beer can often be considered a beverage of choice before bed as well.
The origin of the word "nightcap" is not fully known but there are two theories. First, the warming and dizzying sense of alcohol before bedtime may help some sleep, thus putting a "cap" on the night. Another theory is related to the actual clothing "nightcap", which was a garment worn to keep the head warm, in times when there may not have been sufficient heating. The same way that the garment kept the wearers head warm, the alcohol "nightcap" had a similar effect.

Chanel
Coco Chanel
There have been many famous Guests that have made The Ritz home.
The Ritz Paris certainly lived up to her expectations, the woman who embodied authentic elegance. The bond between Coco Chanel and the palace goes beyond the legend: "The Ritz is my home", proclaimed the famous designer, who would reside there from 1934 for over three decades, adding a personal touch to her appartments and Coromandel screens. The Ritz Paris, true to the spirit of Mademoiselle Chanel, remains to this day, a venue for prestigious private fashion shows for top Parisian designers.
Maybe this was the start of The Ritz Carlton Residences.
We at Marc Alan Innes & Associates want to make The Ritz your home, in one of our extraordinary, custom designed Condominiums. We like to refer to them as "Your Penthouse".
