Recognized for the high quality of its productions, Sarasota Opera has been lead by Artistic Director Victor DeRenzi since 1983, joined by Executive Director Susan T. Danis in 1998. Opera lovers from around the world travel to Sarasota Opera for its authenticity and respect for the composer, its interesting mix of familiar and rare works, and for the beautiful and intimate Sarasota Opera House, called "one of America's finest venues for opera" by Musical America.
Among the company's most important initiatives are the Verdi Cycle in which by 2016 Sarasota Opera will have performed every note Verdi wrote, the American Classics Series which is Sarasota Opera's commitment to producing an opera by one American composer a season, and the Sarasota Youth Opera program which gives training and performance opportunities to young singers from 8-18.
